About Turkey
If this all is not enough for you, or if you want to see more of Turkey, Didim lies in an ideal position for trips. Whether you are an art and history buff, an archeology nut or a nature lover, enjoy browsing through markets or going diving, the different regions of Turkey offer endless possibilities all year round. Each area has its own personality, history, landscape and even cuisine.
In cities like Istanbul, Bodrum, Antalya, Ankara and Izmir, there is a modern, lively ambience of contemporary society living alongside tradition, where art and music can be enjoyed whether it belongs to today or yesteryear. From Didim you can easily visit Kuşadasi at 73km, Bodrum at 110km and the city of Izmir at 120km distance. Flights to Istanbul go several times every day from Izmir or Bodrum airport and cost approximately 69YTL one way (app. £25).
Home to more than 20 fascinating civilisations, Turkey has a 10,000 year old heritage, much of which is still being uncovered. Its rich history is very much a part of the present, with temples, ancient theaters, churches, tombs, mosques, palaces and fortresses, and of course the many detailed and fascinationg museums which bring the past back to life. For those interested in the history and culture of Turkey The Egean Coast boasts a wealth of stunning ancient archeological sites, such as the Temple of Apollo (at a 5 min drive), the ruins of Priene and the ancient theatre of Miletos, and of couse lets not forget the Roman City of Ephesus.
Surrounded by four different seas, Turkey is a beach paradise with over 8000 km of sunny strips of sand. It also has an abondance of plant and wildlife species that can be enjoyed while camping or trekking in the many national parks which are dotted around the country.
Not far from Altinkum you’ll find Lake Bafa and its environs which were designated as a high conservation region. Lake Bafa and its surrounding area of natural beauty and wildlife offers an ideal location for relaxation, cool off in the lakeside restaurants and enjoy the excellent views.
Another great place for trekking is the national park of Karina. Karina is home to many aviary friends, as pelicansi comorants and herons, attracting bird wathers from around the world. After a busy day you can go down to the nearby village of Doğanbey and have a wonderful meal in one of the many fish restaurants.
The Egean Coast boasts a wealth of beautiful beaches, stunning ancient archeological sites such as Ephesus and the Temple of Apollo. A sunny climate and lively and friendly culture make it an ideal holiday destination for families, couples and individual travellers. Because Turkey provides such great value for money, more and more foreigners are snapping up properties, either to emigrate and make it their main residence or as a holiday home with great rental potential.
With so much on offer to visitors it is not surprising one trip to Turkey is never enough.
